Dierker's proposed rule is the best solution I've yet heard to the DH problem, if you even consider it a problem—the fact that there are two rule sets for the two leagues and the strategy it introduces to interleague play (particularly in a playoff run) is one of the many idiosyncratic things I love about baseball!
